Dianthus is a rock duo based out of Riverside, California. Formed by twin sisters Jackie and Jessica Parry. Their music has intrigued listeners with their chaste, melodic vocal harmonies, increasingly ominous guitar tones, thunderous bass, and full-throttle attack on drums. DIANTHUS evokes a sense of elegance and mystery to their live performance, as well as an acceleration of high-energy on stage.

1. (Bionic Buzz) We are all about people’s passions. Where did your passion for music come from? Was it a certain album you heard? A live performance you saw that made you want to start a band? Or was it just natural for you as a kid?

(Jackie) “It was actually a little bit of both for me, watching live concerts at iconic venues such as The Wiltern Theatre, Fox Theatre/headlining tours like Warped Tour, as well as having the passion for music at a young age. Seeing my favorite bands perform their own music and have such a great time interacting with their audience quickly sparked my passion even more-and I knew right then that this was what I wanted to pursue.”

(Jessica) “My passion for music first began when I started jamming to my favorite songs and adding my own groove to them, the whole process and creativity of it all was really enjoyable. It eventually motivated me to find my own voice in the original writing process with my sister. I then began to discover more inspiring artists and that really helped me gain even more passion.”

2. Your debut album is called Worth Living For. Is there a personal story behind the title?

“The title ‘Worth Living For’ is not derived from a personal story of ours, rather it comes from a compilation of our own experiences through life. It serves as an underlying theme for the record in its entirety.”

3. The album was produced by Jinxx from Black Veil Brides. How was it working with him?

“It was definitely the most unique experience for us. Working with one of our biggest influences was not only a huge honor, it was a real milestone for us to be able to share our original music with Jinxx and have his valuable input during the process. It really helped us to grow as artists and enhance our sound as a whole.”

4. The album was recorded at home studio of Matt Sorum from Guns N’ Roses & Velvet Revolver. Describe the experience recording there and how much cool GNR stuff did he have hanging up at the studio?

“Recording at Matt Sorum’s home studio was a huge privilege for us. Our first day at the studio was incredible, Matt gave us a walk-through of everything and we were humbled to see various bass gear that was used by Duff McKagan, an unforgettable sparkle bass that Johnny Depp rocked with The Hollywood Vampires, Slash’s classic Gibson guitar models, and Sorum’s very own immense collection of different snare drums. Recording amongst this treasured gear created a vibe of good ‘ol rock n’ roll…raw, energetic, LOUD!

5. In your music video ‘Black Snow’ there is a small scene where you both have blindfolds on while walking through the woods. The video came out on August 1, 2018. Bird Box became a big hit on November 12, 2018 and then the internet lit up with Bird Box blind fold challenges. What was your reaction to it? Were you both like, hey we did this first!?

“After hearing so much hype around the Bird Box film, as well as the insane craze with the Bird Box challenge, we finally watched the movie for ourselves. We were shocked with not only the similarity with blindfolds, but also the film’s overall aesthetic and hidden theme. Our other music video for ‘Within Hazel Eyes’ (released in March of 2017) was actually the first time we featured the blindfold concept. But yes, to answer your question, we did feel pretty cool for having that idea already in our music videos. ☺

6. What’s the future hold for you two?

“We are working on our second record, which we are super amped about! We hope to debut some of the new material at a few shows when the time comes and they are ready to be heard live.”
