(San Francisco, CA – August 14, 2019) – Women’s Audio Mission (WAM) is proud to present WAMCon Los Angeles: Sound for Picture in partnership with Disney Animation Studios and Dolby this August, as part of their in-demand recording arts conference series. Sponsored by industry heavy-hitters like Dolby, Disney, Spotify, Eventide, iZotope, Epidemic Sound, Shure, and Universal Audio, WAMCon Los Angeles: Sound for Picture is WAM’s first conference on sound for animation, film, television, and games.

WAMCon Los Angeles features top industry professionals like Academy Award-winning Re-Recording mixer Lora Hirschberg (Captain Marvel, The Lion King), four-time Emmy Award-winning Supervising Sound Editor/Re-recording Mixer Onnalee Blank (Game of Thrones), nine-time Emmy award-winning Re-recording Mixer David Fluhr (Moana, Frozen II), VP of Post Production at Disney Animation Studios Berenice Robinson, Head of Editorial at Disney Animation Studios Fabienne Rawley, and Kate Finan of Boom Box Post. WAMCon features workshops and demonstrations spanning a range of topics in sound for picture, including a behind-the-scenes Dolby Atmos® mixing forFilm workshop at the company’s state-of-the-art Screening Room in Burbank with Jurgen Scharpf (Lead Audio Mixer, Dolby Laboratories).

“Women on the technical-side of the entertainment industry remain vastly underrepresented, which means we aren’t in the production environments to make sure our perspectives are represented,” said WAM Executive Director Terri Winston. “We designed WAMCon LA: Sound for Picture, to support more women and gender non-conforming individuals in this industry and to connect them to the top post-production professionals, so that they are trained and mentored by the best.”

WAM trains over 2,000 women and girls a year in music production and the recording arts to address the critical lack of women in the audio industry. Over the past two years, WAM’s transformative programs have spread nationally: the organization hosted four successful, sold-out conferences in Nashville at Ocean Way and The Tracking Room, Los Angeles at Capitol Studios, New York at Jungle City Studios and YouTube Space NY, and Boston at iZotope/PRX Podcast Garage. WAMCon has reached 600 women, and featured industry giants like Linda Perry (P!nk, Christina Aguilera), Emily Lazar (David Bowie, Foo Fighters), Marcella Araica (Missy Elliott, Jay-Z), and many others. WAMCon Los Angeles takes place at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, the 51-acre corporate headquarters for the media conglomerate since 1940, closed to general public tours; the Dolby Screening Room; and a major, surprise, to-be disclosed location in “Silicon Beach,” on August 16 and 17, 2019.
