Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association (GGSFA), producers of the ever popular FREE Garden Grove Strawberry Festival held annually every Memorial Day Weekend, will award proceeds from the last year’s Festival to 13 non-profit organizations.

Dr. Dawn Miller, Donations Chair, Immediate Past President of GGSFA, and Board Member, said:  “It is our privilege to give back to our community $100,000 in proceeds from our 2019 Strawberry Festival to benefit 13 non-profit organizations for capital improvements.  Each organization our Donations Committee has chosen serves the citizens of Garden Grove by providing services for children, seniors, youth, community and the arts.  This year we had an unprecedented number of requests for donations, more than ever in our history.”

Awards range from $600 to $30,000.  Award Recipients include:

  • Acacia Adult Day Services for restroom fans, closets and partitions
  • Assistance League of Garden Grove for safety doors
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Garden Grove for a bus
  • City of Garden Grove Sports and Recreation Center for picnic tables

Award Recipients include (continued):

  • Downtown Business Association of Garden Grove for flags
  • Elks Club of Garden Grove for rebuilding a gazebo
  • O.P.E. (Helping Others Prepare for Eternity) for cabinets
  • KiwanisLand Park of Garden Grove for lake and bridge repairs
  • Lions Club of Garden Grove for a patio cover
  • LBGT Center of Orange County for rebuilding stairs
  • Ronald McDonald House for an elevator
  • Thomas House Shelter for refrigerators and doors
  • Garden Grove Police Department for a Traffic Cone Trailer

The Strawberry Festival also annually benefits many non-profit groups who set up Festival food booths and collectively raise over $100,000 more for their charities.  Proceeds also fund $10,000 in scholarships to high school students and Miss Garden Grove, high school band parade participation for $5,500, plus money to cover gasoline costs for buses that transport special needs children and adults for Special Kids Day at the Festival.

GREG LOUGANIS, four-time Gold Medal Olympic Champion will serve as Grand Marshal of the 62nd Annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival’s Parade, to be held in Garden Grove, CA on Saturday, May 23, 2020 as part of this year’s Festival on the Village Green at Euclid Street and Main Street on Memorial Day Weekend, Friday – Monday, May 22 – 25, 2020.  This year’s parade theme will be ‘Celebrating The Olympics.’

The Festival’s Parade will also feature additional Celebrities to be announced, Garden Grove Civic Leaders and Organizations, Miss Garden Grove and Her Court, Bands, Equestrians, Specialty Characters and Floats.

The four-day FREE Festival also will feature a Free Strawberry Shortcake Grand Opening Ceremony, Free Music and Shows in the Amphitheatre and at the Showmobile, a VIP Pancake Breakfast, Meet and Greet Celebrity Autograph Signings, Food Vendors, Carnival Rides and Games, and Fun Contests with Prizes including:  Berry, Berry Beautiful Baby Contest, Redhead Roundup, Strawberry Idol Karaoke and Tiny Tots King and Queen.

The Garden Grove Strawberry Festival is an annual 501(c)(3) non-profit FREE event produced by the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association, a dedicated volunteer group, which has raised more than $7 million for various charities since its inception in 1958.  The Festival’s mission and goal is to give back to the community serving Garden Grove citizens by donating to non-profit organizations which provide services for children, seniors, youth, the community, and which support the arts.  To learn more and for updates, please visit, www.strawberryfestival.org
